LOST ROCKIN MOMENT PREVIEW

A special thanks to Matt from the Keys To Lost podcast.  He is putting together an amazing podcast : Lost Rockin’ moments, where you talk about one of your favorite Lost moments and what song best relates to it.  I sent in Matt my rockin’ moment and he mixed Lost dialogue with the great tune GET FREE by THE VINES.  Click on the link below to hear it!

HEATH’S LOST ROCKIN MOMENT

Ok, I was listening to the song “20th Century Man” by The Kinks.  I’ve listen to this jingle many a time in the life of Heath’s World.  But now we are getting close to the end and that MIB (Man In Black aka Johnny Locke) is on my mind.

I highlight some interesting parts of the lyrics that caught my eye, have a read and tell me what you think :

20th CENTURY MAN BY THE KINKS (LYRICS)

This is the age of machinery, A mechanical nightmare , The wonderful world of technology,

Napalm hydrogen bombs biological warfare,This is the twentieth century, but too much aggravation…It’s the age of insanity, What has become of the green pleasant fields of jerusalem.

Ain’t got no ambition, I’m just disillusioned  I’m a twentieth century man but I don’t wanna be here.
My mama said she can’t understand meShe can’t see my motivation….. Just give me some security, I’m a paranoid schizoid product of the twentieth century.

You keep all your smart modern writers….Give me william shakespeare.  You keep all your smart modern painters I’ll take rembrandt, titian, da vinci and gainsborough,Girl we gotta get out of hereWe gotta find a solutionI’m a twentieth century man but I don’t want to die here.  I was born in a welfare state….Ruled by bureaucracy  Controlled by civil servants And people dressed in grey….Got no privacy got no libertyCos the twentieth century people Took it all away from me.

Don’t wanna get myself shot downBy some trigger happy policeman,   Gotta keep a hold on my sanity….I’m a twentieth century man but I don’t wanna die here.
My mama says she can’t understand meShe can’t see my motivationAin’t got no security,I’m a twentieth century man but I don’t wanna be here. This is the twentieth centuryBut too much aggravationThis is the edge of insanityI’m a twentieth century man but I don’t wanna be here.

LOST QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED?

As we reach the end of the TV series Lost, like any other show, we want it to be resolved in our own perfect way.  Unlike many other shows, Lost made a deal with ABC to have an end date.  Most shows get cancelled prematurely and they just end with no series finale (Journeyman, Kidnapped, Day Break).   Then you get your shows that think they are coming back for one season but then get cancelled the summer before the new season would have begun (ie. Without A Trace, Veronica Mars).

Recently we got kind of a cool thing when the ABC show Life on Mars was cancelled, although in its’ first season but they wrapped it up the show with the last episode.   And not to mention shows that have been on for a long run and the network allows them to make the annoucement that it is their last (ER, Cheers, Seinfeld).

During Lost’s third season, they negociated an end date.  The network wanted 6 full seasons of 22 episodes per, the Lost creators wanted 5 seasons.  They came up with a compromise for 6 seasons just with trimming the alloted hours for the last 3 seasons.  But having an endate has had it’s share of the good, the bad and the ugly.  Lost has had more good than bad, thus the huge devoted following.  But with so many people addicted to this show, you get your abundant folk of lost haters too.  Whether it’s love or hate, we should come to the easy compromise that we have enjoyed the journey.

They have answered a lot of questions, but with every answer you get those who don’t like the answer.  So it we should know that not everyone will be happy.  We have longtime questions we want answered and we have some that there is no way they answering.   There are some questions that they have answered but not in the way some fans wanted them to be answered.  And yes, there are some questions we are holding out hope to be answered.

There are five hours left.  So I put together a list of questions/answers.  I’m sure I could come up with a hundred and eight, but these are the ones that are on my mind : SHORT TERM QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS THAT HAVE COME UP IN SEASON 5 AND SEASON 6, and LONGTIME QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FROM SEASON 1-4.

LOST SHORT TERM QUESTIONS/ANSWERS :

 1.  Juliet set off the bomb, and the Losties did land in LAX.   However we see two timelines now.  It didn’t quit reset because it affected everyone before the flight.  I was expecting if the plan works, it would just reset.  But it seems to have affected everyone before flight 815.  So now it brings up the question :

 2.  What is the purpose of this other timeline and what does it have to do with our island timeline?  We’ve seen this other timeline through the term, flashsideways.  Jack has a son, Sawyer is a cop (but his parents still died in the same manner), Kate is still on the run but maybe for different reasons, Jin and Sun are not married, etc.  Ben and Roger Linus where on the island but left and started a life off island.  So what is the purpose of these flashsideways?  Character growth?  Different choices?  Is this to show us that this timeline is not Jacob or island influenced because of what we saw in the season 6 premiere LA_X :

 3.  How did the island sink?  Tons of fans think it happened after Juliet set off the nuke.  But could that have really sunk a large land mass?  With Roger Linus talking about Dharma and leaving, are we too assume he left before the nuke went off?  Or if this timeline is not island influenced, does  that means Juliet, Sawyer, Jack et all never came to the island (plus they landed in LAX) in the first place?  So that means they never travel to the 1970’s.  Ben doesn’t get shot by Sayeed, they don’t set the nuke off, etc.  Which leads us to :

 4.  Has this Flashsideways timeline always existed?  Is it Real?  Will these two timelines merge?  I’m sure we will find out by the end.

 5.  Who did Juliet shoot in the other outrigger?  In the season 5 episode, “The Little Prince“, our Losties were flashing through time.  Juliet shot someone in the other outrigger (that shot at them first).  Is it safe to say that Myles, Richard and Ben will be in the outrigger, so one of them get shot?  I hope it will all play out.

 6.  What is in the guitar case?  Answered, it was a huge Ankh with a list from Jacob with the names of candidates.  Kudos to the Nancy drew shoutout!

 7.  Did Sayeed kill Desmond?  I don’t think so but it will be fun to see if Desmond is still in the well or out.

 8.  Who is the candidate?  Is Jack the final candidate?  Is it all of them?  and why?

 9.  Is John Locke the man in black and/or smokey?  Yes and yes.

10.  Was Richard on the Black rock and how does he not age?  In the epic episode Ab Aeterno we get our answers.  Well, the Richard origin.  Richard was a prisoner/slave on the Black Rock and was given the gift (or curse) of  being able to live forever.

 11.  Why did Smokey/MIB become John Locke?  Well it’s a loaded question, but here are some facts : Jack bringing Locke’s body back to the island helped the cause.  Maybe that’s why Richard instructed many to bury the dead.  MIB claims that becoming John Locke helped in finally being brought to see Jacob.   Therefore he could have Ben kill him, finding his “loop hole”.

12.  MIB wants to go home, where is his home?  Is it back in time?  Is it to the world of the flashsideways?  Is it to 2007?  The future? What will happen if MIB does leave?

13.  Who is the boy who MIB is frustrated in seeing?  It could be Jacob?  MIB as a boy?  Who knows….

14.  How did MIB become Smokey?

15. When Sayeed got shot in the season 5 finale, is he going to die?  ANSWERED. Well he did die for two hours but was resurrected.  But he was claimed by evil.

16.  Will we see the temple?  Answered. We did and it was pretty cool.  We got to see the tunnel in which Rousseau’s team walked into in the episode This Place Is Death.  (That scene when Jack et. all went in carrying Sayeed is one of my faves of the season).  Then after being captured by The Others, we finally saw they amazing temple that we heard of first in season 4.  And 5 episodes later, smokey took it out.  We still think its standing but will we ever see it again?

17. Will we see Charles Widmore on the island?  ANSWERED.  Yes and we see him return to the island.

18.  What is the war that is coming?  Yes, we’ve seen the start and it looks like it’s between MIB, Widmore and The Losties.  “A wise man once told me…”

19.  Will we see Claire ever again?  ANSWERED, yes.  She was on the island for 3 years as a Rousseau look-a-like,  but we still need to know if she died in the explosion and then just got claimed?  Or did she get claimed by going with Christian aka MIB.

20.  Will we ever find out why some Losties flashed off Ajira in 1977 and some in 2007?

21.   What is Frank Lapidus a candidate for?  ANSWERED? Yes sort-of  but we really don’t know if he is a candidate for Jacob replacement. Illana blew up!  We could of used that freakin’ answer!

22.  Who is Illana, how does Jacob know her?  What happened to her to wind up in that hospital?  We find out her job is to protect Jacob…Then to protect the candidates…but then she blew up.  Backstory?  Probably not, but it would be very nice.

23.  Will we ever see Desmond again?  ANSWERED YES YES YES!!!!!

24.  Juliet told Myles it worked.  What work? and how did it work?

25.  Will we see if MIB was truly a man?  How did MIB and Jacob come to the island?  Where They were born on the island?

26.  (From Cutepoison10)  What are the rules the boy spoke of?

LOST LONGTIME QUESTIONS/ANSWERS

 1.  Who is Adam and Eve?  If they are not Rose and Bernard the Losties would most likely have to time travel again, right?  I feel they are Jack and Kate, they’ve been setting it up since the beginning and they did discover them in the cave and Locke said, “Our very own Adam and Eve.”

 2. What are the whispers?  So we found out through Michael they are lost souls who have died that are stuck on the island and they can’t move on.  So every time we heard the whispers does it mean that trouble is coming?  We hear the whispers when others pop out or smokey appears.   Is that why Ben told Rousseau to run when you hear them?  But nothing happened bad happened when Hurley heard them when Michael popped out.  Or did it?  Oh boy.

 3. Was Christian Shepard  Smokey or himself?  Sort of answered.  MIB told Jack he was Christian.  Was he Christian on the freighter and off island?  Who was he when he told Michael he could go now?  Was it the island?  Smokey?

 4. Will we get closure on Fertility problems on the island?  We know  that Jughead was under Dharmaville leaking radiation, did that cause the problem?   We don’t think it affected The Others because Eloise gave birth to Daniel.  But did affect the Ben others when they moved in to New Otherton?

 5. Will we see Walt or any of the kids again?  And what role, if any, will they play?

 6.  Food drop, will we get an answer of why it arrived in 2004 when Dharma had been shutdown for over ten years?

 7.  Will we see anymore Dharma?  The 80’s to the purge?  What happened after the incident?  Inman and Radsinsky in the hatch?

 8.  Will we see anything about the orchid and donkey wheel?

 9.  Will we see the Degruts and any goings on in Ann Harbor?

10.  Will we ever see Mr. Eko again?

11.   Will we ever find out if Claire and Aaron will leave on the helicopter?  Did Desmond change it or did he mistaken Claire for Kate holding Goober on the helicopter?…

12.  Will Widmore and Ben ever meet face to face again?

13.  Why did Widmore have nightmares when he was off island?

14.  Did Walt know Locke would die?

15.  The eye in the Arrow Station, who did it belong too?  Donald?

16.  Why did Radsinsky make edits to the orientation film?

17.  Will we ever find out if Mr. Paik has anything to do with Dharma or the end game?

18.  Will we find out who Desmond’s parents are?

19.  Is this whole world of Lost on a loop?

20.  Will we get the origin of the island?  The origin of Jacob?  Origin of the Smoke Monster?

21.  (From Cutepoison10)  What are the rules Ben mentions to Widmore?

Please let me know if there is anything  that you want added to the list.

I had an idea on twitter today : A Lost podcasting swap-fest.  I know what you are thinking.  Heath, you already go on 500 podcasts every other week.  Yes, I’ve been on Donald Is Lost, Lost Mythos, Keys to lost, The Black Rock, etc.  But this Lost podcatsing swap idea is totally different.

What if you could listen to The Smoke Hatch next week but instead of Steve and Matt, it was Matt and Anna in Indiana?  What if you downloaded Donald is Lost and heard Alex from “It Only Ends Once” doing the finer things club and making Mikail voices?  It would be kind of fun, right?

It’s the last season of Lost and the podcasting community pumps out many mnay podcasts per week for your Lost analyzing enjoyment.  But what I’m proposing will be something fun for you and us podcasters.

Now this podcasting swap is not just Heath Solo going onto the Lost Mythos podcast as a guest.  It is a complete swap.  Let me give you an example :  As host of the Lost Revisited Now, I will not be allowed to do my own podcast for one week.  I have to host another podcast.  But you have to keep the format of the podcast you are swapping to.  If I swap to the Smoke Hatch, I would have to follow the Smoke Hatch’s format : drinking, cursing and talking Lost like they would.  And if Matt from the Smoke Hatch hosted the Lost Revisited Now, he would do the show with Wendy, do my exact intro “Live from California (Pennsylvania for Matt) and Connecticut its The Lost Revisited Now, episode 99…” He would also do Lost Alums, etc.  So we are swapping out one host for another to make things interesting for out Lost podcasting listeners.  And it will make it fun for us podcasters  too.  So when you download The Lost Revisited Now, you would have Matt and Wendy doing the show.  Sound fun?  But the catch is whomever swaps, we have to make sure you act as if you are not guest hosting.  Pretend that you have always hosted this podcast, kind of like Lost alt parallel timeline.  Got it?

I’m working with Steve from the Smoke Hatch it getting a list of podcasters who want in.  We are looking to do it on or around April 1st, April fool’s day, per Anna In Indiana’s idea.

If you are a podcaster and are interested in participating :

How fun would it be to hear Jay and Jen on the transmission or Ryan and Jack on the Jay and Jack show?  I sure like it…

10 New shows to watch for in 2010

Here is Tv.com’s Top 10 shows to watch for 2010.  I found it interesting.  Some shows I watch, some I heard were great, and some I just have never heard of.

Friday January 22, 2010 Ms. Wendy will be joining as co-host of THE FILM LIST, to go over the shows we think you should watch in 2010.  Now it’s for the 2nd half of the 2009-10 TV season, not a summer or fall preview, it’s for winter and Spring of 2010.

We will go over what’s coming out and give our choices for what you should watch and what we are going to watch.

Also notice, LOST is the top show on this list.  I like this guy Tim, who wrote the article.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

by Tim Surette TV.com Staff Writer 01/08/10 03:00 PM

In the old days of television (circa 2005), the midseason was where networks dumped their dead bodies. Scripted shows that weren’t good enough for the fall season would debut as “midseason replacements” for fall shows that tanked, and they’d run side-by-side with quick-buck reality shows.

Not anymore. The midseason is home to some of television’s biggest hitters, including American Idol, Lost, and several premium-cable programs. So what should you keep an eye on in the first half of 2010? I chose ten comedy, drama and action programs I think will be worth watching (note: they’re all scripted shows that are premiering this midseason; returning fall shows and reality programs were not included).

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

10. Life Unexpected — The CW, premiering January 18 at 9pm
For once, a new CW show that isn’t remaking an old program with hot youngsters. Life Unexpected follows a 16-year-old girl’s quest for emancipation from her biological parents, who gave her up for adoption. I’ve seen the pilot, and it’s touching and honest without being too cheesy. A pleasant surprise.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

9. Sons of Tucson — Fox, premiering March 14 at 8:30pm
Tyler Labine (Reaper‘s Sock) is a couple hundred pounds of comedy gold, and I’m psyched to see him play a con artist who pretends to be a dad to a trio of kids. The show will air right in the middle of Fox’s animation block, so expect the same goofball comedy that fans of those other shows love.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

8. Damages — FX, premiering January 25 at 10pm
The revolving door on television’s best acting ensemble will bring in Lily Tomlin, Campbell Scott, and Martin Short this year. But the real attraction here is the show’s twisted sense of storytelling; going through a season of Damages is like putting the pieces of a shattered mirror back together. Without the bad luck.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

7. Treme — HBO, premiering in April
I’d put Treme higher on the list, but since The Wire is still vastly underwatched, I’ll leave it here. This anticipated show from Wire creator David Simon follows musicians in post-Katrina New Orleans, so don’t expect any forensics, psychics, explosions, or vampires. Just quality drama about the lifeforce of New Orleans.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

6. The Tudors — Showtime, premiering April 11
The final season of cable’s most lavish program will conclude the decadent life of Henry VIII. Spoiler alert: He dies. Who will have their head chopped off? Who will Henry bed? Who will be bedded by Henry and then have their head chopped off? These answers and more on the next season of The Tudors!

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

5.  — HBO, premiering January 10 at 10pmBig Love
HBO’s Mormon drama gets more attention every season, and deservedly so. The acting is top notch (Chloe Sevigny and Jeanne Tripplehorn are Emmy-worthy), the drama is as heavy as it gets, and the subject matter is delightfully frowned upon by religious officials.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

4. Human Target — Fox, premiering January 17 at 8pm
If you like ’80s action movies that star wise-cracking macho men, you’ll like Human Target. Based on a comic book graphic novel, Human Target stars Mark Valley as a man who poses as a person in danger. There’s plenty of action and levity to make a bucket of popcorn mandatory during all viewings.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

3. Chuck — NBC, premiering January 10 at 9pm
The action-comedy (just barely!) returns for Season 3, and I couldn’t be happier. Why this show isn’t more popular is beyond me; it has spy gadgets, hot chicks, and a charming lead in Zachary Levi. This new season sees our accidental spy endowed with more than just top-secret tidbits; this time he actually learns how to kick some butt.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

2. Breaking Bad — AMC, premiering March 8
When we last saw Walter White, he was sifting through the wreckage of a plane crash that was indirectly his fault. Yikes. How is Season 3 going to top that? I don’t know, but I have all the faith that television’s best writing team to come up with something awesome.

Ten Shows to Watch this Midseason

1. Lost — ABC, premiering February 2 at 9pm
I know, shocker. But how could the final season of Lost NOT be number one? Old ghosts are back as we press the rewind button (or fast-forward button) to discover what happens if Jack’s plan to detonate the H-bomb is successful. The four-toed statue, the bones of Adam and Eve, John Locke’s destiny, it will all make sense. And if it doesn’t, I’ll hunt down the producers myself.

Almost made the list: 24, Caprica, Life and Times of Tim, Justified, Archer, Southland, The Pacific
Which shows are you looking forward to?

Yes, we are 5 months or so away from the Lost season 6 premiere.  There are new shows premiering over the next two weeks and while I’m exciting for shows : Flash Forward, V, Criminal Minds, Curb your Enthusiasm, Fringe and Law and Order, I’m missing Lost.  But I’m a huge football fan so I have more than enough TV enjoyment to get me through till January.

I’ve been a frequent fantasy football player since 1991.  What is Fantasy football?  It’s a fun statistical league where you draft NFL players and based on what they do each week, you get points.  Each week if your players score more points than your opponent, you win.   The top teams make the playoffs and you compete until there is one champion.  It’s a real fun way to follow and enjoy football.  I’m a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, but if I draft a player that plays for Cincinnati, I’ll now be  interested in watching that game.  So it gives you a chance to enjoy games you normally would not,  allows you to have some fun with friends, and it’s just plain exciting!

I was approached by Mr. Payne last year to play in a Lost league.  I of course said yes and I am a part of the Lost Fantasy league.  Not everyone is a Lost podcaster, but we got some names you will recognize.

Week 1 results are in the books and there were some battles.  I was down 20 points to Mr. Payne going into Monday night, and Wes Welker and the Chargers defense came through.  Also, Ryan’s team made a trade before the season, but his line up didn’t have a third wide reciever, so they gave him an invalid roster and no points (we start a QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K, DEFENSE.).  It’s too bad because he has Drew Brees, QB for the Saints,  who threw for 6 tds on Sunday vs the Lions.

I will give reports on the league during the end of the Lost Revisited Now podcasts.  The fanatsy league is played for free using NFL.COM  Here are the results for week 1 :

JACK’S TATOO MEANING AND LOSTAHOLICS

Last night I joined Nancy DrewMatt (Keys to Lost),  Lost Lindsey, and Dan (Black Rock Podcast) on The Lostaholics Rewatching Lost podcast.   I’ve made most of the podcasts this summer as we started the re-watch with the Pilot and just finished “Tricia Tanaka ids Dead” which is episode 10 of season 3.   One of the great experiences has been furthuring my relationship with fellow podcasters and gaining different perspectives on this show we love.

I consider Lostaholics  and The Black Rock podcast  one of the smartest of Lost explorers out there.  During the season, I love to watch a new Lost episode and follow it by listening to the Black Rock live  initial reaction show.   It is a routine that have done for the last 2 seasons.   I’m so happy I meet these Losties and it has enhanced my Lost viewing so much.  Unfortunatly my schedule is going to be crazy over the next few months, so I may not be able to be on the podcast as frequent, but I will sure try.

I had to leave the podcast before we talked about Tricia Tanaka, but It was a lot of fun to talk about :  Not In PortlandFlashes Before Your Eyes,  and Stranger in a Strange Land

The new Sheriff in Town boys, but I'm not getting used to it....

The new Sheriff in Town boys, but I'm not getting used to it....

I promised last night that I would included the translation of Jack’s tattoo and the English translation of the meaning that is the 4 Chinese symbols on his shoulder.  I know, it’s ‘Stranger In A Strange Land’, but it’s a lot of fun.  The Lostaholics have rubbed off on me and now I’m researching everything.  They do such a great job on researching and they give us great insight on the deeper meaning of Lost.  So i figured I would go crazy and look deeper into the Leader that is Jack Shepard and those markings on his shoulder.

Background on the art of the tatoo in Thailand :

In no other country in the world except Thailand does the tattoo tradition have an annual religious celebration. Once a year, thousands of tattoo enthusiasts from around the world descend on the temple known as Wat Bang Phra, located 50 km outside Bangkok, where dozens of heavily tattooed Buddhist monks are masters of the tattoo art. This Wat is also known as the Temple of the Flying Tiger. Unlike most tattoos in the West, the Thai version comes steeped in spiritual, or some might say superstitious, meaning. Jack has a Sak yant tattoo on his left shoulder. Sak Yant or Sak Yan is the Thai name for the Tattooing of Sacred geometrical designs on the skin.

Jack is a 'Stranger in a Strangeland'

Jack is a 'Stranger in a Strangeland'

The tattoo contains 4 Chinese characters taken from Mao’s poem and a Lebanese Phalangist symbol.

Jack did not get all his tattoos in Thailand – only the bottom rung.

English Translation of the Poem – Ch’ang-sha 1925

Standing alone in the autumn cold:
The Hsiang flowing northward,
Orange Island, the cape.
I see thousands of hills in crimsoned view,
The woods piling up in deep-dye;
The mighty stream, in its gleam of jade,
One hundred barques racing by.
Eagles high up, cleaving the space,
Fish gliding above shallow ground;
Ten thousand creatures, under frosty a sky,
all fighting for freedom.

In the waste’s dreariness brooding,
I ask the blue space without bonds:
Who masters fate’s rise and descent?

Once I came here with a hundred companions,
Vivid the months and years yet, filled with pride.
Schoolmates we were, and young altogether,
Upright and honest, in the bloom of our lives;
Impetuous students, full of enthusiasm,
We cast all restraints boldly aside.
Pointing to China, its mountains and rivers,
Setting the people afire with our words,
And counted for muck all those ranking high.
Do you still can remember:
How, venturing midstream, the oars lashed the waters
And the waves yet staying the flight of our boats?

So, whether you like the episode or not, I kinda like what they mean.  In summary :

Isabel translates Jack’s tattoo for the viewer. She reads “He walks amongst us but he is not one of us.” Jack replies “That’s what it says, but that’s not what it means.”
We know what they mean to Jack, that there is a deeper meaning behind the tattoos beyond what they just “say”. And that deeper meaning revolves around how he left America to try and “find himself” and all of his pains and struggles and how he is a “leader but this makes him alone and angry”.

They are his mark. They are his fate and a representation of his desire to find himself, which is the desire of every character and part of the double meaning of the show; that these people are literally as well as metaphorically lost.

The reason Jack got beaten up is that he broke the rules of an outsider getting a mark.
